Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any information about the Irvington area in northwest Omaha? I've seen the exit off of I-680 and know exactly where it is and all.

But I'm confused as to whether it was a former town, neighborhood, boom and bust settlement, trading post, I don't know!

I've asked a few people and no one seems to know. I've Googled and Wikipedia-ed "Irvington" and have come up with nothing.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I've always wondered too, but it doesn't show up on anything but maps.

Irvington is a separate town a little NE of that exit. There are a lot of neighborhoods off that exit too, to the east is inside the city, west is outside the city.

I was a town the sprung up around a former railroad junction. The tracks are all long gone, but all the streets run different than the Omaha streets because they are parallel to the former railroad. There is not too much there anymore, however Omaha has it all but surrounded.

Irvington still has a volunteer fire department.

Also, there is a Great Italian takeout place called Mangia. Mangia Italiana » A Flavor of - Italian Tradition

Thanks everyone!

Oh yeah, I've heard of Mangia before but I've never been able to make it up there. People tell me about it all the time though.

If it's not in Wikipedia, does Irvington really even exist..lol--that will be a good addition for someone to submit.

I lived in Irvington and i know technicly its not part of omaha. Irvingtion is on the outskirts of omaha. They have a Vol. Fire Dept. and a littel councel that takes care of busisnes and lines of county servies like street maint and winter plowing since omaha cant do it. So omaha was a litt town at one time and is still consider one still with the old folks there which Irvingtion is know unincorp. There is still a few Buz in the downtown area of Irvingtion but not like it was back in the 50's when it was formed. if you want to know more stop by the fire station and the older guys can tell you more.
