Default ...

Wait until the baseball stadium gets built...

I guess there is a rumor flying around somewhere that Walter Scott Jr may end up paying for the stadium for the city... Wouldn't that be a treat

I went to all of those but the Slowdown opening while my friends did. Downtown has been packed this weekend.

Just this week Downtown had the following going on.

-Gwen Stefani at Qwest Center
-2 nights of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw at the Qwest Center
- Taste of Omaha, carnival
-Sand in the City
-Gay Pride
- Two day grand opening of Slowdown (music venue, bar)
- Grand opening of the Magnolia Hotel. There are only 5 of these hotels in the country and Omaha has one. (The others are in Dallas, Houston, and Denver.)

There were people parking by my house this weekend and I'm a bit removed from where most people park to go DT. It was just so packed.

I was always happy with downtown, especially the Old Market. It was just as good a place to take your girlfriend on a date as it was to go hang out with your friends stoned...

I moved before the opening of the Slowdown, unfortunately, but I'm sure that's just adding to the activity down there. I can't wait to check it out when I move back - I hear it's a great venue!

One big step in the continuation of Downtown's progress was the opening of the new grocery store today. I'll check it out tomorrow on my walk to work and home.

Downtown Omaha is def. lacking and could use a lot of work. But I think something big is on the verge of happening. I see so much wasted space west of the old market, 16th st could be awesome if work was put into it. But instead its full of vacant buildings and has nothing going for it. The only reason people go in that neighborhood is if there is something at the Orpheum.
I live in Denver right now and they have done wonders with there downtown, Omaha could do the same on a smaller scale. Those pictures were nice, but the only thing they really showed me was that Omaha is still full of overweight people. Hopefully as Omaha transforms so will the mentality and type of people it attracts, because until then, the younger generations are going to keep fleeing to cities with more to offer them.
