I assume you're talking about McMillan Middle School.

I have a rental house about 4 blocks from there. It's a good area. We've had absolutely no problems of any kind.

There's also a really good church nearby - Florence Christian Church - if you're into church, or want your kids involved in a church youth program of some sort.

Tina,

Here is a crime report map for Omaha and I zoomed into 38th and Ida:

Search CrimeReports.com

Some are going to mention that your Street is in the worst part of town; others are going to say it is perfectly fine; I think you should make the decision yourself.

Here is a link to some crimes that happened on Saturday which are not on the Crime Report map that may be of interest to you:

Violent Heartland Weekend (http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/59948232.html - broken link)

I hope this helps; and remember that every Street is different and even though you may be near some crime your Street may be great; also most of the homicides are not random; there is usually a reason and it usually has something to do with gangs and drugs and if you steer clear of those two elements you should be fine!

My mom just moved from that area at the beginning of the year and it was a fine place to live. Pretty quiet but the hills up there SUCK in the winter.

North Omaha is a very broad area depending on who you ask. Lots of people believe everything north of Dodge and east of 72nd is North Omaha.

Anyways that is besides the point. I haven't been back to Omaha for years but when I lived there I lived on 41st and Ames and never had any trouble there. I only spent a little time around 38th and Ida and never felt unsafe.

Welcome to Omaha!

Actually, although the areas of those two shootings sound "close" to 38th & Ida, they're at least a 10 minute drive away.

The shooting at 44th and Curtis is closer than 10 minute drive, it is actually less than a mile away, but the neighborhood could be drastically different even in that short of a distance.

Right.

I'm in and around that area on a daily basis. It's a weird area, because it's so hilly and rugged that most streets don't simply go straight through and intersect with the others.

44th & Curtis is in an area that's actually markedly different than 38th & Ida. It's kind of strange that way.

With two small children it doesn't matter where you live.
If you don't watch them, they are in danger.

Signed,

Your children will be fine. I grew up on 28th and Redick, and spent my entire childhood playing outside. Also, McMillan has the best sledding hill in Omaha. Your kids will have a blast in the winter.
