What sort of salary range would a mid-20 something need in Orange County to have a good life style? Not lavish at all, but able to go out every once in a while for dinners and such and buy nice things. (I'm a clothes and shoes addict!)

I'm moving from Omaha, and I worked two jobs and made about $65,000 a year and have had it pretty good there due to the lower cost of living.

The only bills I will have in the OC are my car, rent and utilities (split with a roommate), insurance, and my cell phone- all add up to about $1500. And, I figure another $500 for food and gas. My new roommate makes about the same in Costa Mesa, and she says she is barely keeping her head out of water. However, she has a ton of debt- which I luckily do not have.

I'm just scared that I will be eating Ramen Noodles everyday!

your salary without the debt burden should be plenty to get by in all but the priciest parts of OC. it depends on just how many pairs of shoes you ending up walking out of South Coast Plaza with on a regular basis. my salary is around that as well, and my rent alone is almost as much as all the expenses you itemized.

You should be fine unless you want to buy a home anytime soon.

meh, I first moved here 20 years ago, and the label "The OC" doesn't bother me. It does make me chuckle to hear L.A. news anchors say it, though.

I was there a few weeks ago and most of the people I was visiting said it! Even in 2 of my intereviews, the interviewers asked why I was moving to the OC.

if you don't have any debt, it's enough to buy a small condo in an ok area once you have enough down payment scraped together. with today's prices, at least.
