Well, me and my husband's lease on our RSM house is almost over. We are looking to move out of RSM mainly because my husband works near downtown Long Beach and the commute for him is brutal. Also, we don't like that the city shuts down at 8 p.m. every night and there are hardly any good dining/entertainment options here.

We recently stumbled upon a rental in Westminster, and we really like it. I'm not going to give out the exact location, but it is between Westminster Blvd, Springdale St, Bolsa Ave, and Bolsa Chica St. It is near many great looking restaurants that I'd love to try. Also, he neighborhood seems nice enough and it's near the 405 which is a BIG plus. I figure that the commute will be about 20-30 minutes for my husband, but I am not sure if I am right. I'm not really concerned about my commute time because I work in Irvine and I'll be commuting reversely.

HOWEVER, we're apprehensive about this move because we always hear that Westminster is crime filled, ugly, bad schools, etc. even though the area we visited didn't seem this way. We are looking to start a family soon and these things are very important.

Is the area family oriented, as in having good schools, safety, and some/many other young families?

Is there anything else we should know about the area? What's your input?

Thanks in advance.

The area you mentioned is probably the nicest part of Westminster and doesn't really resemble the rest of the city.

Yep thats the good part of Westminster. If you have high school aged kids you may be able to get an intra district transfer to either Ocean View HS or HBHS.

What school does that go to? That's not too far from Pacifica, which is great..

Westminster HS is in the Huntington Beach HS District. Intra district transfers are not uncommon

Marina High School would be my school of choice in that area and is only one mile + from the neighborhood mentioned.

No place is ever as bad as "they" say it is. People love to exaggerate. Some people must create drama and even make up stories.

Yeah, it's all relative.. Westminster is "bad" compared to, say, Irvine or Newport Beach but it's magnitudes better than Compton or Pomona.
