Leaving from Dana Point going to Ventura County tomorrow morning. How early would we need to leave in order not to get stuck in traffic on the 5 north? Open to taking the 73 toll road.

My husband does that commute once in awhile from Ladera Ranch. He says he is definitely safe if he leaves at 5:00am but it is possible to leave a little later and maybe not hit too much traffic.

The toll road may help some, but the worst traffic will be through LA. Getting through downtown or the westside will be tough if you aren't through by 6 or 630. The 101 through the valley and into the thousand oaks area can also be pretty slow.

As long as you are on the freeway by 6 you'll be OK.
