Coming from Boston he will not have sticker shock. Oh, and they don't call Mass "taxachusetts" for nothing! Hey Sunny, I am a Mass native and just got back from a business trip to the OC. You are gonna love it! Grew up on the Atlantic, but I'm a Pacific guy now.

I also moved from the East (Manhattan) to OC, but it was several years ago, and there was absolutely no sticker shock.

Thx Jazz- yeah nice place I have friends out there from the “other coast” and they love CA,

It “appears” to be a much better lifestyle.

My beef with Boston is the mentality of just work, Work, Work don’t get me wrong i Work hard but we all need an outlet and for me that outlet is being outside.
Thx

Believe me, I understand all about that work, work, work, mentality! California, as you are aware, has that as well in some areas, but it is a totally different vibe for the most part. Good luck with your plans.

I'd argue that it's not enough if you actually want to 'live'. I believe that for a family of four (even with 250k to put down) to live in an mid-upper class neighborhood with top notch public schools you need to be at 250k plus to be fairly comfortable.

Then again I am biased to carrying little to no debt and enjoying life via travel and adventure outside of my suburban oasis- all of which costs money.

Life in OC is good, but I don't think its as good as it once was. People are packing in and the pop density is one of the highest in the state (I believe 2nd highest county wise).

You can still make it work, I'd just choose your location wisely.

Yeah it will probably be short term. We currently make over $300 combined but want a change of lifestyle, wife will probably go back to work after 6-12 months...
