I currently live in western massachusetts and was accepted into UCSC, USC, and BU. Although I live in the same state as Boston, I have absolutely no idea waht Boston is like, it is completely different from where I live. So as a college student who is unfamiliar with both areas, what are the pros and cons of each place? I am used to big cities so that it not a problem.

- What are the good/bad neighborhoos of each place
- What are the neighborhoods that young adults populate
- What are the differences in attitudes of each place
- How does boston and LA/Santa Cruz's community differ?
- Are there certain asian/hispanic neighborhoods in these cities?
- Which place is more friendly? I have heard the east coast is generally more "real" then CA and thhat CA tends to be more materialistic..?
If you could answer those questions that would be great and i would really appreciate it.

I've been to the UCSC area. To me, it seemed really cool, something you might like. It is about 80 miles south of San Francisco. I don't know BU.
USC is located in a older neighborhood in Los Angeles not far from downtown. From USC you wouldn't have to go too far to be in a higher crime neighborhood. USC and SoCal I am certain have a great deal of Asian and Hispanic culture, neighborhoods, restaurants and social opportunities. I'm not sure of UCSC.

That's about all I know.

Let's read what others have to write...

Obviously Boston and LA are very large cities and Santa Cruz is not. That's the first big difference. As for young adults, they usually live near campus. As for attitudes, I've never been to Boston, but have visited much of the east coast, and they differ from the west coast. it will probably surprise you at first, but you'll get used to it real quick. and as for materialistic people here in CA, you'll find that anywhere, especially where people have money. not everyone is like this and its usually quite easy to avoid these types of people. don't be fooled by this misconception, its not like the tv shows here.

Santa Cruz has much more of a hippy vibe than LA or Boston.
