Can I get some tips on what are the most reliable cab companies servicing the newport beach area. I am talking in terms of cost and reliability. most notably on service to john wayne airport and to the peninsula.

Thanks

I thnk that the cab companies are pretty much all the same. Moderately reliable, dirty, and expensive. There are two major cab companies that i can remember. One is Yellow Cab and I cannot recall the name of the other one. THe other company once failed to pick me up for a trip to the airport, so I no longer use them. One time is all they get. Yellow cab has some fabulous drivers and some awful ones. However reliability depends ont he dispatcher more than on the driver.

The shuttle companies are cleaner, about equally reliable and less expensive, but you usually have to schedule your pick up several hours before your flight. They can take an hour or more to take you a short distance because they are running all over the place picking up other passengers. ThEy are not much cheaper.

There are car companies or limosine services that are not cabs. They are very expensive and reliability depends on the company. Whenever practical, I just rent a car and rely on myself.

For your purposes, the Blue Vans might be good. (I.e. airport service.) I've found them to be way less a PITA than say Yellow Cab.
