A quick question--how is the driving condition at night from Grants Pass to Rock-n-Ranch? I will be new in the area just coming for a weeding. Does the road a bit too winding? Thanks!

Weird, Google says it's 40 miles SE of Salem, not Grants Pass.

But 199/The Redwood Highway is a great road to drive on, possibly one of my most favorite in Oregon. The windy part doesn't really start until after you cross the California border.

Be sure to stop by the museum in Kerby if you have time. Also the Oregon Caves National Monument is in the area, and worth a stop.

Thanks Hamellr. Just another quick question: is the Highway 2 lane each way or one lane (from Grants Pass to O'Brien)?

Except fer a short stretch by Grants Pass, it is one lane each way. There may be a few passing lanes along the way.

We've had many great times at Lake Selmac (catch& release Bass)

Be Cautious of DEER & other critters crossing the highway, at NIGHT especially...

Looks like it's Rock'n R Ranch. That should be a fairly easy drive to and from Grants Pass. Like Hawk said.....keep an eye out for wildlife. Are you staying in Grants Pass?

Yes. Best Western at the Rogue. What is the posted speed limit on that highway?

I believe that it's 55 MPH along the two lane hiway portion. Watch your speeds in town. If you google map it, you'll see that the road is not very winding in the section. It's an easy drive.

As kadylady said, it is 55 MPH unless posted lower. Don't be the jerk tailgating everyone while trying to go 70 down there. And watch out through town and past it because it is NOT a freeway. It is a rural road with driveways and cross roads and it is one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the entire state.

But yes, as Hawk J said, watch out for critters and you'll be fine! It's a lovely drive and not a problem to drive at night. Past the California border I would not want to drive at night on that highway, but down to O'Brien is fine.

400 brown road, obrien, or - Google Maps
