Would it be silly to consider driving from Michigan to Oregon in late November by use of 84 W? Is it likely I would run into snowy weather and impassable roads, or are any of the roads closed on this route in northern Oregon?? Is it more logical to go up through California?? Thanks!

You'll want to watch the weather, and pack for emergencies. I84 is a major route though and every effort is made to keep it open. But it's possible you'll be delayed for a day or two.

I moved back to Oregon from Portage Indiana with my Motor Home towing a 22 foot 5,000 pound boat in November on that route. No problems other than it getting burried to the top over night on a side trip to Deadwood South Dakota. We stayed in an old hotel and it was parked in a raven parking lot. The whole town turned out to help us shovel our way out.

We arrived back in Oregon on Thanksgiving day, if that helps.

You should be okay. As a previous commenter said, they do their best to keep the route open. You might see snow on the ground in parts of Oregon, but it won't be on the road. Elevation never gets that high. Where you will want to worry is through Utah and Wyoming. You will probably see more snow through the plaines states.

84 is more likely to give you trouble in Idaho. November is a little early for the Columbia Gorge ice storms.

As said before, you ought to be ok. Elevation does get over 4000 feet between Baker and La Grande going over the Blue Mountains in NE Oregon, that's most likely where you'd see any snow this time of year. You may see it in the Baker/Haines area as well. And yes, you may see it on the road. Odds are not that time of year, but it does happen and wouldn't be unusually odd.

As it is the main E-W freeway through the area every effort is made to keep it open and usually successfully.

I actually go across US 20 and have not had any issues thru Burns and Bend. Depends on what part of Oregon you are headed for.
