Seriously, I don't think I've ever met anyone who was from Woodburn, despite it being a decently large city. Why does it get so much less attention than other cities of comparable size like Dallas, Albany, and McMinnville?

I think it can be put into the same class as Bielefeld, Germany.

I've been there many times too, but I've never met or even interacted with a Woodburn native knowingly.

You could hang out at a local Woodburn bar for a little bit. I am sure you would meet a few Woodburn residents then.

Woodburn has one of the most high, if not the highest, immigrant populations in the entire state. Something like 70% are immigrants or first-born citizens - mostly of Latino & Eastern European ancestry.

I know that immigrant communities will often socialize inwardly, so if you are not of that ancestry, perhaps that's part of the reason why you've never met someone from Woodburn.

Not sure what the OP means. Nitpicking a bit, it's half the size of Albany, and about 25% smaller than McMinnville. It's closer in that regard to Newberg or Tualatin.

Or West Linn, but WL gets attention out of proportion to its size because of its setting and money. McMinnville gets disproportionate attention, certainly, but that's a mix of the college town setting, the location at the north end of wine country, and the fact that it's one of relatively few larger towns between I-5 and the coast to compare/contrast with Corvallis.

Dallas gets attention around here primarily because Steve P. was a flag-bearer for Dallas for so long. Even someone like me who's only been through a handful of times ends up talking about it because it's a bit of a meme. The longer he's away, the less often anyone will probably bring it up.

[and yes, as wanderby just noted, there are some economic distinctions esp. for a C-D crowd, but I do know people from Woodburn myself]

I've never lived in Woodburn, but I've been many times to the livestock auction there and I've been once to the outlet mall.

My interaction with the local population has been with farmers and they seem like normal people, except that there is a higher percentage of Menonites and Russians than one normally runs into. Nothing wrong with that. My experience has been that they are honest and pleasant.

I'm thinking the explanation of foreigners is the best reason why Woodburn has so few that seem to be "from" there, thanks!
