Those ratings are based on crime per capita. Since it is such a small town, it doesn't take much crime to give it a high rating.

Personally, I think decent far better describes it than least desirable. I'm pretty sure, there must be a few less desirable cities to live on the coast.

As for the one long traffic jam in summer. That one long traffic jam, starts at the California stateline, and ends at Astoria. Traffic is not unique to Lincoln.
I was relating what retirement websites say. Retirees seem to like LC, but if you have to make a decent living (anywhere on the coast), different story. I find it least-desirable, based a lot on visuals, and just getting around. It's a city that just doesn't fit on the coast.

Here's the thing about Lincoln City.

First, it has no harbor so no real industry or fishing fleet like say Newport, Astoria, Florence, Depot Bay, Bandon, etc. I think the Siletz River bar is just way too small and shallow for reliable access by boat. Most of the other older cities and towns along the coast grew up around harbors with fishing fleets and/or sawmills. So they feel more quaint.

Second, it is a long spread out city sitting right along 101 so all the coast traffic runs right through and you have constant traffic jams. Many of the more pleasant beach towns along the coast that aren't fishing ports are set off from 101 so that your downtown areas aren't completely slammed with daily traffic along 101. Pacific City, Manzanita, and Cannon Beach are all set back from 101 so that all the through traffic bypasses those towns and they actually have smaller quaint downtown areas that are pedestrian friendly unlike Lincoln City.

That could describe any of the coastal towns. It sounds like you just don't personally like Lincoln City. As for making a decent living, I believe the OP has a job lined up. So I'm guessing that is not an issue.

So you are basing the quality of life, on how far set back from the highway the Downtown Area is? Honestly that sounds more like a tourist concern, then a resident concern. I don't hear people here worry about stuff like that. IMHO some of the nicest towns on the coast have Downtowns right on the highway. Yachats and Depoe Bay to name just a couple. Except for small shops, most businesses tend to be located on Highway 101, anyway. It's the lifeline of the coast. Businesses need to have highway access and the traffic to survive. Most coastal towns have a small old Downtown off the highway and then the main business district on the highway. Driving on Highway 101 is a fact of life for almost all coastal residents. It's almost impossible for residents not to drive on Highway 101, in any town.

Okay, yeah theft and stuff is fine. Violent crime is what I'm unfamiliar with. lol @Woodsmoke's comment. When my wife and I lived in Cannon Beach, we had tourists put dirty diapers in our private recycling bins at curbside. Our cabin wasn't even on a main st, though we were around the corner from a side beach entrance.

There's nothing wrong with Lincoln City, although I agree that it's less visually appealing than other parts of the coast. If you've got a job there, go. Personally, I'd probably live out a ways like in Toledo or maybe even Otis, but that's just personal preference. The traffic can crawl to a stop when the casino is featuring a popular act, though.

You mean a lot of coastal towns don't fit on the coast? I'd never say that. And retirees like many coastal towns? I wouldn't agree with that, either. As for job prospects, I'm sure others considering LC will be reading this thread.
But yes, I don't like LC.
