To answer the OP, generally to avoid rich liberals, go to eastern Oregon. In many places you'll not only avoid the liberal, but the rich as well!

I personally find the preservationist leanings of many Oregon liberals to be thinly-guised NIMBYism. "I sold a tract home in Santa Cruz and bought my McMansion with patagonian wood floors backing up to public lands, so you better not log on them!" Challenging us to consider a more healthy view of local production of resources and jobs would be valuable, but as I said, probably not popular. Environmental "protection" groups are like ticks on a hound here. We have rich people from elsewhere giving money to environmental groups staffed by kids from elsewhere shutting down resource extraction by the people who were born here. I am not saying the incomers are not right, but socially it appears that they are reaching across the plate of the locals. Not a recipe for trust or harmony.
Oh no! I'm no candidate for Roseburg and no-anti-preservationist! Libertarians are further to the left on social issues than Democrats! I'm a Henry David Thoreau preservationist, like Randal O'Toole of the Thoreau Institute in Camp Sherman, Oregon (The Thoreau Institute). He's perhaps a "Libertarian Environmentalist" who helps protect the environment using economically sustainable solutions. That's a big difference from Republicans who sometimes do not appreciate plant and animal habitats. I'm totally against all herbicides, pesticides, and any other environmental contaminants. I think we can increase logging, mining, and ranching in sustainable ways, to help Oregon's economy.

I'm just referring to self-righteous Rich Liberals that you find in Boulder, Flagstaff, Santa Fe, etc. that exclude outsiders.

Hold the phones! I kind of liked that song, in a nostalgic, cold-war, apocalyptic sort of way. Until I realized it might also appeal .....to..gasp.....RICH LIBERALs!!!!

Default Liberals?

So what is wrong with being a Liberal? If you want to avoid them, Oregon is a tough place to accomplish that.

Not in half the state it isn't...in fact, in some areas, people have driven for miles just in hopes of catching glimpses of one upon hearing one has gotten lost and wandered in, usually seeking a tofu restaurant. Seeing one can be so memorable it is often the mental landmark when reminiscing..."You remember when the school burned, Bob! It was about 5 months after we saw that liberal! Little Suzy was able to catch a quick picture of him in his Volvo before he spooked and ran...all you could see were elbows and Birkenstocks!"

I hear liberals have cooties...

I wish you wouldn’t tell CCCVDUR these things. It might make him want to move over here and we don’t have the patience for him. We have enough problems with the price of hay and the economy. You tolerant rich liberals can find a home for him. Keep him on your side of the mountains, please.

The he/she (?) did drop some sort of rolled up mat. It was great for field dressing that buck, but always smelled funny, like some sort of coffee drink. Fed it to the hogs. They loved it.....
