My daughter and son-in-law are moving to Orlando next week. They know no one - have no jobs, no apartment and no idea what they are doing. I am trying to help them at least get an apt in a safe neighborhood. They are in their 20's, no children, may attend college next year, and my son-in-law will be looking for a job (who knows where - he is unskilled at anything in particular. They are also Muslim, so would like to live somewhat near a mosque. I have searched this forum and found the areas to avoid - Kirkman Rd, Millennia area, Pine Hills, Parramore, Metrowest. Is the whole west area or Orlando to be pretty much avoided in general? Where should they start looking for an apartment?

It will be very difficult to find a nice apartment in a good safe area for that price. They have to at least be able to get into the $750 range for a decent 1 bd.

Best advice you could give them is to not come without savings and jobs.

Yes, already gave them that advice. Son-in-law is from Egypt - doesn't like the winters here in the north. My daughter doesn't want to move but is following her husband. I will miss her.

Help them find a short term (maybe a year) rental on CL.... Tell her to ditch the birth control... when she gets pregnant everything will be fine... then when the baby comes and she's yelling and screaming at him because they are their only support group and she can't cope with the baby 24/7 and he's not helping out enough, she will be back to you. If he's a 'real man' he will too. That's the best advice I can give you... it's what happened to me.

Yes, that would probably do it but I just bought her 9 months of bc pills

Still worried about their safety though - should I steer them to Tampa? That is the other place they are thinking about settling?

For the price your asking you won't be able to get out of the areas you've liste.

For safty...Look for places in College Park, Winter Park, Lake Mary or Oviedo (if they plan to attend school)

I hope he can handle the humidity....it's wicked right now.

How are they going to find an apartment complex that will rent to folks who are unemployed?

Most places require you to document income of at least 3x the rent.

IMO, moving from the north to FL just because you don't like the winters is asking for BIG trouble. Did he have a job up there? What did he do?

Things are tough down here now and really, this situation sounds downright scary.
