We are planning on moving to the Orlando area next year after my son finishes High school. We are considering the maitland/winter park/oviedo area, along with Kissimmee and sanford.

Any thoughts on what areas we should really look at seriously?

Additionally, when we move we will have to rent a 3 bedroom apartment or house while we search for our new house. Any recommendations as to a nice apt complex? must be safe and allow cats.

Thanks in advance

I lived in Maitland for 2 years, downtown 2 years, and live in Winter Park now. These are my favorite areas of Orlando as they have a more established, older Florida feel. I would definitely recommend Maitland or WP, provided you are looking in the right areas.

Oviedo is about 10-15 miles away from Winter Park and Maitland and is quite different in terms of feel. It is more of a new Florida area with gated communities and the like. I don't spend much time up there so I really can't comment on it.

I would not consider Kissimmee.

Yes, agreed with Pete. I would recommend Winter Park or Maitland as long as it's in the Winter Park H.S. district. Oviedo is good but it's further out from everything and it really is more of either a cookie cutter gated community or a rural type feel. I would not recommend Kissimmee, the other areas are head and shoulders above Kissimmee when it comes to high schools. As to rentals, by the time you get into the 3 br size, you should consider renting a single family home as the price will be comparable. Other areas that may want to consider are Altamonte Springs (32714 Lake Brantley School district), Lake Mary (Lake Mary H.S.), and Conway (Boone H.S.). Best of Luck.

Thanks all. The high school isn't important except for resale value because my son will be out of high school by then.

sounds like winter park/maitland is the area for us, especially since my son might end up at Full Sail university.
