You only had one more stop light north to go....

LOL, I know! We saw it the next day. It was dark, and we were tired.

No you are wrong. One of my sons just finished working at Walmart while he went to school. He got a 401K right away and offered health insurance after on year. This is working PART_TIME. They also have the management training program which they encourage him to do and yes they prefer to promote from within. Most managers transfer to different states wherever they wish to live which is also what my cousin's son did with them. He got $9.50 @ hour.

OMG there are way too many items to list. I would never consider Ace Hardware and then run to a supermarket and then another supermarket and who knows where else. If you have time for this go for it.
Sure you can get items at other places but who has the time and effort to run around to all these place, Yikes.

Also to be a manager at Walmart you don't need that piece of paper that shows you memorized all kinds of crap and have a degree. These people give you a chance. I commend them.

Ive been going to my local wal mart for over 9 years. I have seen stockers and others move up the chain as the years went by.

Why do u think they are the largest employer in the US.

Because people are desperate, and being able to use the employee discount is the one decent benefit that they had.

It's been about 15 years since I was a SFM at Target when I was finishing up college. The Wal-Mart down the street recruited me hard. I was making $10/hour at Target, guarantee 40-hour week plus benefits a mile long. Wal-Mart was willing to take me in at the same rate, but converted to salary as long as I signed an "open availability manager-level agreement". This meant, since they were a 24-hour operation, they could assign me any time of day or night, as long as I had 8 hours between shifts and shifts no longer than 12 hours at a time, with a maximum of 65 hours per week for a flat weekly rate equal to 40 hours of what I was making at Target. I refused them outright, but mentioned the offer to my college buddy who hadn't been able to get on with Target. He was promoted to this "special manager level" instead of hourly within the month when they realized he was willing to work whatever it took, and ended up making less than when he was an hourly cashier (once OT was factored in). He often would sleep in his car because he didn't have enough energy to drive home and then drive back to work in that 8-hour gap between sign-out and sign-in. (There was an unwritten policy that you had to work an hour after you signed out if you wanted to "get ahead" at some point, which they were busted for because it violated that 8-hour break between shifts.) He ended up having to drop out of college because they refused to work around his schedule, but he was desperate and needed the work to have a place to live.

I ran into him a couple years later, when I had gone off to bigger and better things… he had enlisted in the Navy and was on his way off to Iraq. His comment is that he'd rather be shot at in a foreign country than work one more week at Wal-Mart.

I've heard that things are a bit better because they got in so much trouble over the years for labor violations, but it could be that the people who are grumpy working at those stores are so because old habits in the management chain are hard to break, and there may still be some "interesting" things going on for employees who are "management", but not high enough to be able to know their rights…or have the freedom to do something about the violations they have to live through.

The good thing, at least in this area, is there's somewhere else to go for a job….not all towns have that option because Wally World has pushed out the other similar industries.
