Our son is in advanced honors in Franklin, TN. We are originally from Florida. In TN they have the kids take an Iowa test that measures them for 7th grade qualifying for Algebra 1. The student has to make 95% or higher on the test. If we relocate this summer, how do we make sure he can take Algebra 1 in 7th grade. He is in honors math now and never brings homework home (finishes it in school) and is making straight A's. The school he is going to is nationally ranked and a wonderful school district so it isn't that they are behind and easy for him. I want to make sure he goes as far as HE WANTS to and he seems to enjoy math tremendously.

Thanks!

Oviedo HS, Hagerty HS, Olympia HS, Lake Mary HS, Winter Park HS, Lake Brantley HS, Winter Springs HS. Definitely live in Seminole County. I'm in the same boat with my kids. They excel at our MI school and I have been doing a lot of research on the best high schools around Orlando because we are relocating down there for my husband's job.

I live in lake nona in orlando. My child is entering garde 6 this fall. They are doing test now to qualify for 6th grade algebra 1. If my child doesn't pass, they will do the test in 6th to determine for 7th grade algebra 1. Call the school to ask before u live there. I heard only some schools have this program, not sure how true it is. I will know next week if my child qualify to take 6th algebra 1. Yeahhhh

BTW I did the same before I move down here did all the research and yep Seminole county school stands out, but they don't have activities that some orange schools have. I visited schools and ask for activities and ended up in orlando lake nona. Make sure what your kids need the schools have. There are bad and good schools to all.

I think floridamove did wonderful job explaining the process to you because when I was in Middle we had a test to take like that as well. But since you said your open to suggestions for ideal locations to start checking out here are some. Lake Nona, Winter Park, Windermere, Winter Garden, Altamonte Springs, Sanford, Longwood, Oviedo and Winter Springs. Seminole County is consistently rated among top school districts in the state of Florida so families flock there for the schools. However Orlando has its good ones to so don't get discouraged during the search.

Yes, I have a son going into 7th grade and a daughter going into 10th grade. I have done hours of research on the academics and athletics of Orlando area schools. My daughter excels at cross country and I can't believe that Hagerty HS in Oviedo doesn't have a CC team!
