My sister was driving through Winter Park Pines on Sunday and said there were several police cars from the Sheriff's department and that there was a dead body in a car in the driveway, along with crime scene tape around the yard. Ambulance showed up and left but a medical examiner truck showed up a little while later.

I drove by today and the crime scene tape is gone but the vehicle that the deceased was in remained in the driveway.

I have not located any information online, so I am guessing it was not a murder, but I am curious if it was a death of natural causes, why would they put crime scene tape up outside the home? If there was any question of there being a murder, do they have to notify the residents at any point? I am curious because my sister has teenage daughters and we always thought that the neighborhood was safe.

Any time there is an unattended death it is treated as a potential crime scene until the coroner or detectives deem it otherwise. Often it is very quick to determine, such as if the person had a history of heart disease and there is no reason to suspect foul play.

Thanks for your response!

My sister drove by this evening and one of the people in the neighborhood said they heard the dead person was shot. If there was a shooting wouldn't the news be involved at the very least?

I am more leaning towards it being natural causes since the car was left there and no police have been asking questions of the neighbors or are collecting additional evidence from the area. Hopefully this doesn't turn into something terrible for the safety of the neighborhood and the family is able to grieve peacefully.

I highly doubt the car would have been left there if a person who had been murdered was found in it.
