hi! We moved down to windermere in august from connecticut. WE LOVE FLORIDA. It's been great all around, except for a few things we expected. All the schools aren't the greatest for kids with special needs and getting them services. SO, we need to move out of this area and put my little guy in private school in Maitland and my other son at a different private school in Winter Park. Naturally, we start looking for housing in Winter park and Maitland and really not happy with what's out there. We also LOVE the area of windermere and winter garden. I want to avoid several more moves. Our forever dream home would be on the water in Overlook at Hamlin.

Does anyone live here? Is it out there from everything?

Would the daily commute to drop the kids to school to Maitland and Winter park coming from Winter Garden be too much? I timed it and it is about 30 mins.....

I feel like in Florida, there is always a tradeoff. You can't find something that has land, pool, awesome area and good schools.

Any input recommended!

Thanks,
Candy

Hi Candy,

There is someone around here who lives in Overlook at Hamlin on the water and loves it- hopefully he will see this and respond!

As for the commute time- did you time that in the AM when you would be doing the driving? I have driven to Maitland from Windermere for my son's basketball game on a traffic-free saturday and it took more than 30 minutes. Winter Park on it's own will likely take more than 30 minutes, particularly in morning commute traffic. Of course it is doable if you don't mind the drive.

Have you considered Lake Mary area? I am thinking that might be an easier commute to those schools- someone more familiar with that area can hopefully chime in and give you a better idea.

The commute from Lake Mary to Maitland during rush hours is AWOL... It's a fairly short distance, but the drive is just disgusting.
