Hi I just moved here, as some of you I'm sure already know. I used to live in San Diego, where you almost never need AC. We just moved into a 1600 sf place and are running the air most of the time, except when it's really cold, then we open the windows, but that happened once so far.

We haven't gotten a full month A/C bill yet, only partial month, but I'm wondering what it should be. I have nothing to compare to, so I don't know what a normal A/C bill would run. I know it's probably more in the summer. Any info you could provide on your personal square footage and A/C bill would be appreciated. It will help me know if I need to do better weather proofing or anything else.

I did install a doggy door and it's one of those double door ruff weather ones, so it's supposed to be a little more energy efficient, but I'm wondering if it's causing us to bleed cool air...

I have a house about the same size and my AC bills have been about $80-$90 monthly. The water is about $100 a month and there is a sewer bill about $30-$40 a month. This was in the hot summer months. I don't know how much the bill will decrease with the colder weather as we only got here in June. This is for a house with me, spouse and 2 children

There are too many variables to give you an accurate representation of what it "should be" (Size of house, number of stories, number of occupants, insulation type/amount, window type, A/C Age, A/C Energy Rating, personal temperature settings, gas/electric stove/usage, gas/electric dryer/usage, gas/electric hot water heater/usage and etc). The power company would be your best bet to get an estimate based on past usage for that particular address (Usually your deposit is equivalent to 1 or 2x monthly usage) and may have programs to determine energy loss and improvements you can make.

So to add in another variable - We just moved from a newer build, single story 2200sqft house (Gas Stove & Hot Water heater, Electric dryer, temp average of 72 degrees) and our electric bill averaged $150 with gas and water around $25/each

1) 2,900 square feet two floor house with doggy door, usually around $280 for electric, 75-77 degrees

2) 3,400 square feet two floor house with pool, usually around $330 for electric, 75-77 degrees

Amount varies up or down depending on season

Thanks all, this is helpful. @MyITGuy point taken about variables, but this does help a little. This will at least help me know if mine is way out of whack.

2600 sq ft house with a pool

$300 when we run the a/c, $150 ish in the off season when we don't need a/c

We have OLD original windows - not well insulated. So I imagine if we got better windows it would go down. We also have sky lights which doesn't help.

1500 square foot house, one story, built in 1989, 1 year old AC unit. Electric everything and kept in the mid 70's.

My bill ranges from an August high of around $220 to a winter low of $100ish. Water bill is $11 and sewer runs an additional $35.

I should add that we are home fairly constantly and my 71 year old mom keeps the TV on from the time she wakes up until she goes to bed, so I'm sure that ups the cost a little...
