Like Orlando, most people don't work Downtown. The largest concentration of white collar jobs (about 140,00) are on the Northside in the Perimeter Center area. The trick is to live and work near a train line, then the traffic is a non-issue.

I was really seriously considering moving to Alaphretta and Johns Creek, the homes around Atlanta are gorgeous and affordable. I only got to spend a couple hours in those areas though. I usually stay around the Belt Line. I didn't know the jobs were centered around Perimeter.

Yep, the Perimeter Center area has the largest concentration of white collar jobs and office space between D.C. and Texas.

State Farms new East Coast ops center has 8,000 jobs alone.

I moved to Florida from California in Dec 2015/Jan 2016. However, I move a lot and that has become a habit of mine, so at one point I was seriously considering Atlanta after living here a couple years (I'm assuming you want to know why I chose to stay in Orlando instead of move to Atlanta and not California?) but decided against it because of the long distance/time from the nice suburbs with good schools such as Alaphretta and Johns Creek to the the parts of Atlanta I find exciting such as Piedmont Park, Belt Line, Krog Street Market, Ponce City Market, etc. It'd be like driving from Dr. Phillips to Lake Mary, but with worse traffic. I also thought it might not be a big enough change for me to think it was worth it. Atlanta is much bigger than Orlando, but it's still not really an urban city. You can walk around Midtown, but only so many times before you'd get bored. You can walk the belt line, but once again only so many times before you'd get bored. ETC. I don't have kids, but I don't want to drop a lot of money on a house if there isn't either good public schools or good reasonable priced private schools for when I do have kids. The good private schools are pretty spread out and expensive. So yeah, I thought the changes wouldn't be big enough to make it worth it. I think I'd miss having the theme parks, water parks, natural springs, beaches a lot more than the new things I would get in Atlanta. I did fall in love with the trees in Atlanta, absolutely beautiful. I think I'd be really happy in Atlanta with all that being said, but I'm also really happy in Orlando too. Oh and I forgot, a big part that was exciting was the korean food, but I wish it had more other asian cuisines too (it does, but not on a big level, their korean food is pretty on point though, Honey Pig is really good kbbq). If you have more specific question, I'd be happy to answer.

Thanks! I'd also been looking at the very same areas around Atlanta as a new location possibility, but decided to stick with the Central Florida.

I agree. Toll booth to enter and exit the interstates, malls, stores overcrowded, no Kroger, buses late, overpriced hotels, etc.

You’ve proven time and time again in the City-vs-city board that you don’t know Orlando. Why are you here? (There are no toll booth to enter and exit the interstate — notice I spelled it singular.)

And now no Lucky's. It seems Publix wants to push out any choice in the state.

You are right about the malls here. And we've been out of state a couple of times. Once to Atlanta. Lenox Square mall is amazing, best mall ever. It blows anything in Orlando away and it isn't in the middle of a war zone like Millenia.

Not a fair comparison, at all. Atlanta is 3 times the size of Metro Orlando, and Lenox Square has been around since the 1950's. And Millenia may be in a 'war zone,' but we've had two armed robberies with shootings in the parking decks at Lenox since mid-December. This is in the highest profile section of the City, so it's no utopia. I love it here and prefer it to Orlando, but let's be real.
