I would be pricey to do the whole house, but the bedroom might be worth it if you really don't want to sell. Decoupling clips and double drywall with "green glue" in the middle? Walls and ceiling.

Yes I've bought two houses in the milk district also and the airplane noise is much higher there. In neither case was that disclosed so I took it as something that wasn't normally needing disclosure. Of course you should do what you feel is right and I doubt it will deter most people. I lived in a house literally right beneath the flight path for seven years and it was a negative but not so bad as to regret my decision. I think like bmw said, I expected more noise in downtown for the tradeoff convenience of location. Since then I moved to Thornton Park and am just really happy with how quiet it is compared to the Milk District - at least for my specific location. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

So, I'm in Baldwin Park now... Was in the pool over the weekend, and it seems like I am directly under MCO's arriving flight path. I don't hear it from inside my home, but it was quite loud at the pool, and occurred seemingly every 5 minutes or so.
At least, unlike in Lake Nona, the planes are still fairly high when they pass over here, but still... It's noisy.

Just looked at MCO's flight tracker for the last hour and counted 12 planes over Baldwin Park on the descent to the airport from 2600-2200 ft.

Thanks for your input folks. Y'all are right, of course.
Since our place was built in 1930, added insulation would both increase energy efficiency, and dampen sound impact. {Full disclosure, I had been encouraging my husband to preserve the historic single pane-windows.} And while one expects it to be noisier downtown, I wonder if current soundscapes (aircraft, cell phone convos, boom stereos, cars with modified exhaust, muffler-free motorcycles, leaf blowers, generators, fireworks) have increased, unchecked, in intensity? I was raised in Los Angeles, and don't remember this level of sonic barrage. (Of course age makes us somewhat less tolerant, right?)
Though I do wonder, are increasingly frenetic soundscapes negatively impacting mental health in urban populations? Is the lack of civility we see nationally a result of ever increasing infringements on our "well-being" filters? Could what we consider to be normal city din, instead be a pervasive pollutant in American cities? Never mind, Im just old and cranky.

I live in Lake Eola Heights and while I definitely hear the occasional plane or helicopter it’s never been enough to bother me, or regret my decision to move here. I love my neighborhood and wouldn’t mind living in Thornton Park either. My best friend used to live in Lake Lawsona and I was there all the time, I don’t ever recall any airplane noise. She’s in the Milk District now, I’ll have to ask her how it is.

Default Bbl2017

Don’t move to Baldwin to escape airplane noise! We moved to Baldwin a couple of years ago and the air traffic noise has gotten considerable worse here as well. Apparently MCO has changed those frequently they land their planes and can now land more planes in a give time period. The flights over us from MCO are nonstop. Add in the constant traffic of low flying small planes from Orlando Executive Airport (think loud flying lawnmowers) and it’s getting difficult to manage the noise. You can’t even enjoy a nice walk around this beautiful area. I feel like all the residential close to both airports are suffering. We’re thinking of moving as well which is a shame because the area is beautiful. Maybe if all the neighborhoods bam together, the city/airports will make some changes.

FWIW - you can complain to the FAA all you want about ORL but Dyer and Demings, as Board members of GOAA, have way more say about the operations there. I've said this before here but it's ridiculous that we have an 800 acre hole in the middle of the city that no one lives in, no one can hang out in, that everyone has to drive around, creates a lot of noise, and imposes severe height restrictions as far away as downtown and for what? It doesn't bring in tourists, it doesn't otherwise make money for the city, and we already have Sanford and Kissimmee for general aviation.

I don't know about that one. The jet noise headed to MCO is louder and more frequent than the prop planes from ORL. If you look at a map the planes using runway 18L/36R are flying directly over the Baldwin Harbor Apartments. The planes using the adjacent 18R/36L are lining up with Bennett/Conway.

Living in Baldwin is all day jet noise - from 6am until about 11:30pm. I live in Audubon Park. I hear it all day, every day, even with the windows closed. We also get ORL noise but that's not as loud or as frequent since we only get the planes headed west after takeoff and the helicopters headed north.

Anyway, on page 11 of these slides you can see how intense and low the air traffic gets directly over Baldwin and Audubon Park. http://www.trbas.com/media/media/acr...0-03161005.pdf

I'm not going to move or anything. I love the neighborhood and it's not loud enough to chase me away. But it's definitely present and the closer you live to Bennett and/or New Broad the louder and more frequent it's going to be. The aircraft noise drops off substantially by the time you get to the other side of Winter Park Rd - down by Redlight Redlight. I love my house but if I had to do it over again I probably would try a little harder to be closer to Bumby. It's a lot quieter over there.

Airplane noise in BP is very bad. We have called to complain but was told there was nothing they could do about it. We love BP but are now seriously thinking about moving to WP......

A year after moving here (roughly a year) I agree. It can be quite bad.
