Yes central FL is the lightning capitol of North America, I think central africa is the lightning capitol of the world. Either way you still need to be careful. But it only last a few months, the afternoon thunderstorms stop around late september, then the weather becomes really nice all the way untill around May of the next year.

Central Florida is the Lightning capital of the world... makes sense that the Tampa Bay NHL team is the "Lightning"

I wouldn't say you get used to them. When they get quite violent it is still unnerving.

It also depends where you when they strike. If you are at home you are ok.

If you are about to exit the supermarket with a cartload of groceries, not ok.

And you can leave the house and it is blue sky and 30 minutes later there is a major storm. So you can't always plan your trips based on the current conditions.

Over time I have learned to enjoy the weather extremes here, even the hurricanes.
The lightening is so powerful, so loud, so bright its almost mesmirizing to me. However I am careful to NOT sit in the window to watch it.

I have two female cats from Mass who were housecats there, now they have access to my lanai, I have often found both of them on the lanai watching the storms, even though they could come inside.
