According to postings in today's Orlando Sentinel, Progress Energy raised their rates 8% in August, will raise them 25% in January and are asking to raise them again 9% later in 2009. That's 42% in the course of one year!!!

Is no one else concerned about this? I didn't believe it at first, but just called Progress Energy and their representative confirmed that ALL customers will see a rate increase of 25% in January '09.

This is incredible in an economy when few of us are getting raises and many are getting laid off. Is there any way to fight this?

Wow! That's an incredible increase. Talk about a jump! Is there anything we can do?

That's rediculous! Our rates are already high! I don't get it, gas prices have gone down. They use fuel to make electricity.

Progress Energy uses mostly coal to produce their electricity. But surely there is something we can do....they had to get approval from the state for these hikes.

hmmm makes OUC look pretty good. shame they cant offer a larger area. We need to make it where we can go off the grid and implement wind and solar powers so we can cut the cord to Progress.

To everyone, as a fairly new transient, I encourage each of us to contact our representatives (Congress, governor, etc.) by calling their offices and voice our concerns.

They only listen to you when you are making campaign contributions.

Yeah...that's a pretty significant increase considering the economy and all. I wonder how many people are going to start getting behind on their electric bills because of this.

Is there a specific website that you can post so everyone can go directly to it?
