Getting ready to move into our home in Lake Mary. Can anyone share any fishing tips? Where is the best place to fish in or around Lake Mary? Any lakes or rivers that you have experience with? I like to cast and use lures. anyone want to share any good spots? I am only used to fishing in small lakes in NY.

also...what type of fishing permit will I need?
Thanks!

You'll need a freshwater fishing license. Most of the time you can get one from Wal-Mart. If you're in Lake Mary I would recommend fishing on Lake Monroe, up the street in downtown Sanford. It's actually part of the St. Johns River. Some of the best fishing is out in Lake County(Mt. Dora chain of Lakes) and Windermere area (Butler Chain of Lakes). These are large inland lake systems that interconnect. If you like seawater, hit Sebastian Inlet, Cocoa Pier or Mosquito Lagoon.

If you have time to travel Southwest Florida from Naples all the way up to Tampa Bay is a fisherman's paradise. Sometimes you can charter boat for fairly cheap. Often times you can get really good action just hit the mangrove marshes where the freshwater hits the sea. Be careful to know your take home sizes and limits though, they really do enforce those laws.

There are several good retention ponds on Green Way Blvd.

There's also Lake Jessup. For saltwater fishing, we are only 40 minutes from the coast.

Be careful on Lake Jessup. There something like 10,000 alligators in there.
