Don't want to buy an Opel GT out of a barn or someone's front yard? Well, here's your chance....lol. This one has been in a climate-controlled basement since 1979.
These cars were a bit, um, "challenged", when they were brand new, so I'm not sure they get better with age. Often called the "poor man's Corvette", this one is about the same price as a poor-condition Corvette!
There's a guy who lives about 30 miles from me on a country road who has a 1966 Ford F100 sitting on his property. I would go out driving near his property about once every couple of months, and would often think to myself that I should stop and ask if the truck was for sale. I have a friend of mine in the restoration business, and while the '66 F100 isn't up there on the level of a '67 Corvette convertible, it would be fun to have as a weekend car, even with a light restoration.
So last month, I found myself out near his property, and was initially excited when I saw a sign near the truck. Pulling off the road, I walked over to the truck, only to have my hopes dashed. The sign read:
I bought a 1970 Opel GT on my way back from Vietnam. It was bright orange. I had the car 3 or 4 years. I decided it looked fast but drove slow. I invested in Koni shocks and some sway bars front and rear. A new set of slightly wider wheels and some descent tires. I re-jetted the carb, along with some other modifications (polished all the intake and exhaust ports, less restrictive pipes, etc.) and ended up getting a good bit more power. It was a very noticeable change in performance and handling driving around, it became a fun car.
Spotted two Opel GT's sitting in someone's driveway a few years ago. One was beyond repare (Parts Car) the other was a complete car, but it needed some TLC. Drove by a week ago and both cars are still there and nothing has changed. https://goo.gl/maps/krigcZ5KzWo
Late model Impala just chilling. It was in good condition when I first saw it. Also it says "Not For Sale"

Interesting the google maps link still comes up, but the impala and the Opels are gone, replaced by a Pathfinder and maybe a Chevy truck in the garage.
