It’s the computer way of introducing you to another possible friend and showing you that the person who posted is a friend of someone else you might already know; and gives you an opt to befriend this person.
It’s like introducing you to a third person in a social group and letting you know that this person is a friend of John Jones who you may already know.

I did indicate a while ago in a post that if my powerball lottery ticket became a winner I would share it with others and make lots of friends as happy as I was. Who needs $150+ million anyway, why not share it with 149 others and everyone will be happy. This might be a reason for how I accumulated so many friends in my profile here.
