Good to know I am in such great company! I am an ambi, but more of a lefty. I write left, but on a board, using large letters, I can manage writing right-handed for fun. I eat left-handed and am a complete klutz with a right-handed fork. I cut my meat with my left hand, holding it still with the fork in my right hand.
I am as proficient with either hand for golfing, bowling, hammering (for hammering, this gets me out of a lot of tight spots).
I have loved to draw all my life, but am very heavy-handed, in my drawings, with my left hand. This isn't all-bad. But I have been amazed at the result when I have drawn with my right hand. There's something better -- good -- about it. It is lighter, more pleasing.
I am completely right-handed with a bat. I am completely right-handed with a computer mouse. The self portrait you'll find if you select my profile picture here was done on the computer using a mouse -- all right-handed.
I write with my left hand, but do a lot of things with my right hand too. For most tasks, one hand is dominant but I can do it with both hands, or the task itself actually requires two hands but one hand is using more strength or fine-motor skills.
Left-dominant: writing (print and using the stylus for braille), receiving sign language, using a fork, reading braille
Right-dominant: guitar playing, using my cane, signing (ASL), chopping vegetables, piano playing.
I flip-flop between left and right to eat. I shave the left sides of my legs with my left hand and the right sides with my right hand. (Lol, never thought of that before and had to imagine shaving to answer that question. )
I am predominantly right, but do allot of things with the left and even write some with the left too, but that is only after practice and because I think being a leftie is neat but right is just right
[quote=Dallas Kitty;25294566]I'm a righty but I'm curious about the can opener. Next time I'll try my left hand!
You can't do it with your left hand, it is set the opposite way. As I used my can opener the other day, I had this strong desire to use my left hand, add upm to it, just felt it'd be stronger. But again, you can't! Oh well. Will have to see if I can buy a left handed one and see how that goes!
I am sorry I haven't been around for my thread. I am going a bit crazy with the job search and all that is going on. Even right now I am fighting a deadline and can't stay to post. I will be back next week, I promise!
I am left handed, but my right arm is strong so I use it for things that require strength like bowling, opening a jar etc.
