Greetings, kids! Scroll on down for Today's Tip.

.

MAKE A PHOTO PRINT LOOK ANTIQUE

Do you love the look of old photos in sepia tone? You know - that antique look? Well, you can create the effect with black and white or color prints that you've had sitting around in boxes or albums. Before you try this, though, make sure you have a second copy in case you make a mistake.

Take the old photo and place it in an oblong or square, flat-bottomed pan. Then pour classic Coca Cola over the photo until it's completely covered. Swish it around a little to make sure the Coke is underneath it as well.

Soak the photo for a few minutes, until you get the desired tone. You can lift it carefully from time to time for a peek. When you get the color you want, gently lift the photo out and hang it up to dry. You can use any small clip to hang it from a string in your shower or bathtub, or over the kitchen sink. Let the photo dry completely and voila! You have a sepia-toned photo that looks antique.

Good tip Ms Pam. I've done that with left over black coffee too. Looks old and dated.

I assume this is for regular photographs and doesn't include (self developing) Polaroid type photos...

and what about all those nice bright colors.......?

Great tip, PJ! And, thanks for the bonus tip, wit-nit!

I really like the look of these... we had three sets of my DD's wedding pictures developed, one in black & white, one in color and one in sepia tone, and they look wonderful!

Good to know you can do that to some of your own old black and whites yourself, so thanks!

Also, here are instructions on how to get this sepia tone on photos loaded on your PC:

Interesting! What I usually do is take digital photos of my old snapshots, then edit them. That way the original photo is left intact. You can duplicate the original to make as many copies as you like in your photo program, then try out different effects on the copies.

Thanks, Pam!

Thanks Pam- I did know about this, and I have photoshopped a digital photo to look antique.

I hope that you have a great weekend.

Yes, if people have the means to digitally copy and edit photos, that's the way to go! However, I know quite a few people who don't have such means. It probably won't be long, though, till just about everybody is able to do digital photo editing.

In the meantime, they can doctor up their printed pictures with Coke!

By the way - the info I found online about the Coke technique said to make sure to use regular Coke, not diet.
