The Airbus A320 had flown beyond the Denver Regional control center, and the aircraft's radio was still tuned to Denver, where it should have been tuned to the regional control center in Minneapolis. That explains why the pilots were not able to hear calls from Minneapolis or Denver Centers, the aircraft would have been out of Denver's reach, and the radio was not tuned to Minneapolis Center, as it should have been when they left Denver's control region. So it is possible they were too busy with the laptops and probably missed, or did not follow through on the last transmission from Denver Center, that would have instructed them to switch the radio over to a Minneapolis Center frequency.

Usually when a control center contacts a flight crew and advises them that they're leaving the control region, and that they'll be handed over to the next control center in the region they're headed into, the pilots are supposed to acknowledge the instruction, which they probably did, but they may not have changed the radio's frequency, and contacted Minneapolis' Control Center, because they were too busy with their laptops.

I think investigators will be listening to the CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorder) to determine exactly what was going on, I just hope that particular aircraft has the newer CVR, which has the capability to record up to 6 hours of everything that was going on in the flight deck. I know older CVRs only record about 30 minutes, since that's the information investigators would most likely need in catastrophic incidents, like crashes.

I just heard they had the older CVR that only records thirty minutes. The whole thing just doesn't add up to me. One of my friends thinks they were involved in some type of sexual activity in the cockpit. I don't know what went on, but it's scary.

Doesn't really matter which "story" it is, because one is just as bad and inexcusable as the other. But whatever it was sure held the attention of both pilots away from what they were supposed to be doing.

Magnum Mike, I'm more curious to what was on on their laptop screens. Heh! Heh!

Nope I don't believe their story. I guess it doesn't matter what they say they were doing. They were not paying attention to the flight for a long time. They put the flight in danger.
They could have been on their laptops, but I doubt they were just looking at work schedules.

Lightbulb .

If the authorities checked their laptops they should be able to see the history report of what they were doing and when.
(from what little I know about it)

It’s a good thing the flight attendants in the passenger side of the plane made the call to the cockpit to wake them up!
for the flight attendants!

Talking .

It would be such a laugh if after checking their laptops – they find out that pilots were running the “PC Flight Simulator” program, instead of flying THEIR plane.

Thanks Mike for the additional info!
-------------------------------------------
I don't know enough about what goes on in a cockpit to make a judgment call on what they were doing.....but it sure is disappointing with so many people unemployed, for the employed ones not to respect their jobs........or in this case......all of the other people on the plane!!
