It happened to me. Luckily, there was a cop there to point out my error. I got a ticket (which seems HIGHLY unfair. I didn't TRY to do it! ) And - I was on the way to jury duty at the time, so after he gave me a ticket, I had to ask him for directions, SANS the one-way streets!
We have streets around here that are only one-way certain hours on Sundays because of Church. I've driven the wrong way on those before because I was too impatient to wait until 1pm or just plain forgot.
I live on a permanent one-way street though and have never driven the wrong-way down it, but I see cops doing it ALL THE TIME! Also, the way the snow-plow trucks and the leaf-collector trucks are set up, they have to drive the wrong way down our street.
I'm waiting for an accident to happen one of these days.
I lived in the heart of Charleston, SC and in the city many of the streets are one way. The police patrol in cars but mainly on bikes and in high school we thought it was funny to go the wrong way down the one ways. A friend was driving one day and she saw a cop car at the other end she pulls into a space just as an officer is getting off of his bike...TICKET
He parents were very upset at the cost but more so that we "endangered traffic", my mom would have flipped, forget being upset!
I did it once when I had my learner's permit! Thought my Mom was going to crap herself! LOL Gotta love those teens learning how to drive.....I am currently going through it AGAIN! (not much fun being in the teaching seat I must admit)
Just act like you know what you're doing. Wave and smile at bystanders as you pass them. Pull in the first available driveway or side street. Might have come close or committed somewhat in downtown area here......distant past.
