Hmm...for some reason the Green Acres theme song is running through my head. Lived in the country, live in the suburbs, would love to live in a city. A nice WARM city!
I live in the city, not in the middle of it, about 13 miles away from downtown, and I don't necessarily love it, but like everything else, it has its pros and cons. Mainly, being a diabetic, I'm close to everything. I'm also about 12 freeway miles away from the office, and it only takes me 20 minutes on the average to drive there, and back home. With my line of work, it's a little tough to find software engineering jobs out in the country... Plus, both of my parents live about 3 and a half miles away from me, so I have to be close to take care of a few things for them. Taking into consideration the price of gas going up, that's one of the advantages of living in the city, I won't have to drive too far for everything.
When I retire in about 6 or 7 years, I will move a little further out to one of the communities in the outskirts of Phoenix, and buy a cabin in the moutains to spend summers.
Take me out of the city and Im one happy girl. Within a couple of years I'll be either in OK or WI and THAT will be where I finally settle my roots.
Crowds, traffic, plus remember the more populated areas, the more crime, unless you want to live in some area where there are gates, passcodes to get in or out, and rules as to what trees or plants you can or cant have in your tiny 1/10th acre lot or what colour your house HAS to be. I like being able to leave doors unlocked and have a big picture window with no blinds blocking the sunlight, not sharing one acre with 5 other houses. Slower paced lifestyles. And best of all, little or no traffic! So, you commute to work a few miles, many of us do already anyway.
Since the suburbs is considered the city..that's me.
I like having stores nearby to shop & not having to drive a half hour to pick up a container of milk...
