It is hard sometimes when u r the one always doing the giving or being nice, but the alternative is to be something u r not and that is going to be even harder and more unpleasant. And make u unhappy in the end.

No. Don't stop being nice. Here's what you do....(experience talking here)....Proceed with caution. Sorry, but this is the way it is today. I'm no longer impulsive, and no longer do I immediately trust people, jump forward and accept them at face value. I learned very late in life that all people are not what they appear to be, and not everybody is as forthcoming and honest as you might be. But don't let some bad experiences with people change your true personality. Good hearted and accepting souls have a hard time.

I remember thinking the same thing once after multiple bad relationships. I figured I would become mean and nasty just like the way those guys treated me. Then I thought, what if the right guy comes along while I'm being that way??? I'd lose my chance, my integrity and everything I'd always believed in. Long story short, I decided not to settle for anything less in life than what I wanted, treated everyone with respect, help those I wanted to, and do things that make me happy. At the end of the day, when my head hits the pillow, I want to be able to sleep.
Stay true to who you are.

If you want to join the Republican Party, why not just come out and say so? Just kidding.

Sometimes we feel used when we are nice. We can't change who we are, but we can change the way we react to other's bad behavior.

Sorry-it's nice to be nice and doesn't cost a thing.

Mean and nasty can be expensive-healthwise.
