Now I am so used to buckling up, I don't think about it. But why not require helmets for all motorcycle ridders? Shouldn't we protect them too against their wills for their own safety? I totally think everyone should be as equally inconvenienced as the next fellow by safety laws.

Yes , this has always bugged me. Got a motorcycle when I was 14 almost immediately the helmet law took effect. Hated it. I know it saves lives though. I've hated the seat belt laws but I always buckle up now. To not buckle up could only endanger your own life and only possibly. Same with crash helmet. But for the authorities to demand you wear a seat belt in a vehicle yet repeal the helmet law is incredible. Wacko lawmakers in action.....

It should be. I know I for one wouldn't get on a cycle without a helmet.
Only 27 States have some sort of helmet law.

Current U.S. Motorcycle and Bicycle Helmet Laws

25 years ago, CA did not have a helmet law and my husband was killed on his Harley. We were only married 9 months, so yeah, this one hits home.

I guess the problem always is when we are young....we think we are infallible. I look back at my younger years and it never amazes me all the stupid risks I took in the sake of fun.

One argument I heard about seat belt laws when they first came out for the driver made some sense to me. If you go into a skid or start bouncing around, the seatbelt can keep you behind the wheel where you have at least some chance of keeping or regaining control of the vehicle. You can't do that if you are bouncing around inside (or outside) the car.

Seat belts, airbags, and all of the other new improvements for safety in cars have reduced the number of highway deaths over the years. However there’s a problem! It’s helping to keep bad drivers alive who go back out on the highways and do the same stupid things again. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The biggest problem is the loose nut holding the steering wheel and that isn’t fixed yet.

Good drivers don’t have accidents and don’t need these safety items on cars.

I wouldn't start the motor without having clicked my seat belt! When I wear it ~ it reminds me that others on the highway are out to try and kill me.
