I am interested in the statistics of the last 10 years or so. We all know what age "it's supposed to be", but I think that statistics is still hailing from the 50s-80s.

By puberty I mean appearing of either secondary or primary signs (they may not be simultaneous).

growing breasts, hair. (Primary would be having periods, but that may come later).

Interesting question. I put an answer for myself because I don't have kids, plus I was 12 during the 1990s to 2000s time. At age 12 I had secondary signs; I didn't have primary signs until 14.5 years old. I realize that I am an anomaly among my family and friends.

I have two children. My oldest, at the ripe old age of 7, called me over and asked what the new "bones" under her nipples were . For tne next four years, she had to go in to have her thigh bone growth charted because they feared she'd exit puberty and end up really short. Fortunately, she took her sweet time and is now 5'8".

Her sister didn't start puberty until she was 9. I couldn't vote twice.

Thank you. I think as terrifying as it sounds for modern parents, yours is more of a realistic picture of modern girls.

I was trying to make sure that multiple choice was allowed. Am sending a request to mods to allow.

The statistics I see now are showing the first signs of puberty start showing up by age 8 for many girls, with the average age around 10, where it used to be around 12.

Distinct body odor changes before the age of 8 was the first sign for my third daughter, not her period. Shortly after needing to use deodorant she followed very closely with the underarm hair and pubic hair wasn't all that far behind. Her need for a bra began about age 9/10 and her period did not begin until she was 11.

My son just turned 8 in January and I've had to get him started on deodorant already to and you can see the fuzz beginning. I am sooooooooooo not ready for boy odors! lol

My older girls (29 and almost 24) started the process a little later. The oldest probably about 10 and the next one about 9.

One of their boy cousins turned 13 in Sept and hit his first big growth spurt about then. He just now started with the voice change issue. Of course I have no idea about anything else....lol

My adult kids didn't develop any earlier than myself or my dh, I noticed no difference. And my 8 year old doesn't need deodorant yet. I think diet plays a significant part in a child's development.
