At least $15/hour, the minimum. $20/hr. is what I would call fair and standard, and $25/hr. is generous.

My goodness.....around here I'd say the average was $5-7/hr. for 1-2 kids, normal evening hours nothing unusual. For a teen babysitter. I don't think my college aged, CPR certified daughter gets $15/hr. It depends on where you live.

$10 per hr.
1,2 3 whatever number of kids.
If its lots of kids then get more baby sitters. Paying more per hr does not get better sitting out of the baby sitter.

Wow, when did babysitters start making more than minimum wage?

People around here charge a minimum of $10 an hour to walk a dog or do yardwork (a teen mowing a lawn) so I can't imagine paying less than that to watch children. If it's a younger teen watching kids for a short time then it might be fair to pay less.

It really depends on where you live, the age of your children, and what the babysitter will be doing. The absolute minimum around here for a young sitter is $10 /hour for one child, $15 /hour for 2. College age sitter start at $15. If they are going to feed, bathe, do bedtime for younger children even a young sitter will ask for $15.

I agree with Zimbo...

And when it comes to your children? You really do get what you paid for..
If it is for an evening out and it consists of the sitter being a warm body and just making sure the kids do not get hurt or kill each other I would say minimum wage...

However some parents expect games, bathing, tucking in, story time...top notch entertainment..I pay 50.00 for the evening...if I cannot find a relative to watch my son and he is 14...

Totally depends on where you live and the type of babysitter (young teenager vs student with car and CPR vs qualified nanny). Here in NW Arkansas, $10/ hour is about average for a qualified college student with experience for up to three kids. A bit more during the day (ie when kids are on the go all the time vs asleep for half the shift)

I just posted this in the Florida forum, because I know that it widely varies throughout the country. I have two kids, aged 10 and 8, and my plan after talking to friends and reading the answers here is to offer $10 per hour.

ETA: Oh, you probably read that, since you're from my area! LOL
