Must suck for your daughter to have a boring high school life.
How did you get from "can't go to a hotel party after prom" to "boring school life"? That's such a stretch that DuPont might call you to help them improve spandex.

No i said alcohol is involved , Does not mean every person partakes. It just means if you have 10 kids in a room then at least 3-4 people will drink and likely need to use the bathroom.

I don't see how her daughter not partaking in booze means she has a boring school life ? From what i can tell julia is a great lady and probably has a stellar daughter. Everyones interests are different in life but not partying does not =/= boring person. Besides going out on occasion i rarely go out, drink, and certainly never drive when i do. And i sir/mamn am a ball of fun beyond doubt .

I do know there is a lot of drinking at these parties, unfortunately. Not every party, and not every kid, but April through June sees a spike in alcohol-related teen deaths every year due to prom and grad night. I do not allow my daughter to attend unsupervised parties, boy/girl sleepovers, or anywhere teens are drinking--so no hotel prom parties. This doesn't mean she has a boring life (LOL) or is a stellar kid (double LOL ), just that she doesn't hang out with kids whose parents are overly permissive in my opinion. She'll be a junior next year and will probably go to prom and a party afterward, but it will be at the house of someone I know, whose parents will be there.

This is all pretty off topic to the cost of prom. It's better suited to threads about permissive parents.

This was 10 years ago, but I think my tux was $150, and a bunch of us went in for a limo, so I think it was 100 or 150ish a person. Dates dress I think was a hundred bucks, she already had makeup, shoes were i want to say 30 or 50. Where are people getting a grand from?

It is AVERAGE.

Did you buy your date flowers? Take her to dinner? You must have bought tickets to the dance. Did she get her hair and nails done?

Does your school not have an after-prom party sanctioned by the school?
