1978 to 1985.

We didn't use the AP style book--we actually had to use the style of the school, which in most cases was more strict than others and in some cases seems to have leaned toward Brit usage; for example, quotes within a sentence
Inside the punctuation. We've had long discussions about this on the Writing forum!

It shouldn't, should it. Maybe it's because with the exception of the "laughing" acronyms, the others are things you actually might say. Very few people when speaking say, "Dear Husband left the toilet seat up again this morning."

Also, as mentioned, I personally have never seen the dh, ds, dd set used anywhere else but City-Data.

I did say the acronym TFB once in a meeting. You could tell by who laughed which people post on Internet forums!

When I was a kid DH meant Dear Heart, a romantic term for any loved one.

Oh, the usage is very widespread!

Also...
You gotta watch what board you are on when using acronyms.
LOL can mean 'load of laundry' on some forums!
DH can mean 'damn husband' on others.
