please explain the initials (baby, parent, son, husband)

I have seen many of these in the parenting threads. Not being a parent, I have no idea what all these initials are in reference to your kids.. ss, ds, dd, etc. Just wondering if y'all can enlighten me~

DS - dear son
DD - dear daughter
SIL Son in Law
SS - Step son

Defective daughter, dull son, damn husband (courtesy of yahoo! answers)... did I miss any?

Actually it's "dear" daughter, "dear" son, "dear" husband, etc.

As an aside, why isn't there a puke smilie? These acronyms should automatically be accompanied by one.

The first time I read a woman saying "dh" I knew by context she meant her husband but I thought she meant something very different.

I agree, how hard is it to write "son", or "daughter" or "husband"?

Then again, I type fast and I realize some people don't.

Something else I've never seen anywhere but on City-Data is people writing "my kiddos" for "my kids".

The acronym that took me the longest to figure out was YMMV. Finally one day I typed it into Google and voila! Up popped "Your Mileage May Vary".

When I see those acronyms, I immediately and unconsciously imagine a woman sitting in a cubicle with a "Hang in there Baby" kitten poster and a coffee mug that says "I Hate Mondays".

Ha! That's funny. Couldn't be further from the truth in my case, though. I think people just use them as a convention, similar to any other acronym or abbreviated word form. Don't other forums have acronyms specific to their topics?
