How many parents have delt with the young yuppy parents who only think their kids are so perfect?
How do you deal with their arrogance?
Thankfully not "in real life".... only on forums like this! (For that, the HIDE button is a wonderful thing!)
But there's something to be said for a polite nod while inside rolling your eyes.
i have no special axe to grind for yuppies, but i grieve for the teachers that knock themselves out and are threatened and insulted by aggressive rude kids and then the parents go after the kids? no the teachers. OMG.
I remember once hearing my rather nasty mother when she was talking about the mother of a neighborhood kid:
"She's the kind of mother who thinks her kid can do no wrong" and I thought "Wonder what it's like to have a mother who has such a high opinion of her kid"
My parents withheld praise and accolades and rewards for fear of spoiling the kids. It backfired when we felt we were never good enough for them. So I agree with Mama Bear- all parents SHOULD think their kids are great.

Um, are we related?
My parents made sure it was clear that us kids we NOT special, or great, or cute. Guess how well that turned out?
As with most things in life, it's all about balance.
We should all do our best to ensure our children are confident, yet humbled.
Successful, yet compassionate.
Well, my daughter is only 9 weeks old, so this probably doesn't count, but I think she's about as great and perfect as anything could be.
And you're right! Nothing is a beautiful and perfect as a new baby.
My "baby" girls are now in their 20s and out living their lives. Are they perfect? No, no more than any of us are. Are they wonderful, unique and precious to me? You bet. And they are kind, caring and contributing members of society. That makes them successful adults. I feel blessed every day to be their Mom.
Enjoy your daughter's babyhood. It is all too fleeting.
So only yuppie parents think their kids are perfect? Sounds more like you have a problem with yuppies then anything.
But you're right, we should just tell our kids they are worthless, unattractive failures who are an embarrassment to their family.
