What is your opinion of this, and would you allow your children to leave it for the restaurant staff to clean up?
A few months back I was with my uncle, aunt, and their son (my cousin) at a small town cafe near the town square. My cousin was about 15 months old at the time, so he was still a "baby" so to speak. My relatives would feed him Goldfish/other finger foods that often fell onto the floor and left their wrappers there for the employees to clean up. I don't know why, but I instinctively picked up the goldfish and wrappers and goldfish and left.
How do you feel about this?
Meh, groups of adults can be just as messy. I discourage piggishness at any dining table, be it out or at home, but I don't really pay much attention to what other families do.
Back when I waited tables, I swore I'd never take my toddlers to a restaurant. I'm sure you can guess that I changed my mind when I matured and had kids of my own. I try to be considerate of the servers and busers. I try to put all the trash together, and pick up food off the table and put it back on plates at least. There are some very piggish, inconsiderate people out there, no doubt about it.

I feel that you were raised to be polite. Good job
I see this all the time, (even with relatives or friends) and it drives me nuts. Being a waiter/waitress is a tough enough job.
I waited tables too and told myself when I had kids I would do my best to cleanup after them. Now Im not getting on my hands and knees to get every single piece of food my kid drops but you bet I will get every wrapper, crayon, piece of siverware I can and pick it up. People who dont clean up after themselves are slobs and people who just dont because they expect a server to are *******s
I mean if you know you're not gonna even attempt to clean up after your kids the least you could do is leave a GOOD tip for that hot Hooters waitress. She works hard for her tips and has to put up with douchebag guys hitting on her the whole shift and the last thing she needs on her agenda is to be picking up your kid's crap that you were to careless to clean up.
Yes, you should attempt to pick up after your kids, or at the very least apologize to the waiter/waitress for the mess and like the abover poster said --- leave a good tip.
We always cleaned up after our kids and would leave extra with the tip.
