A stripper and a prostitute are different occupations. Honestly, I certainly hope my daughter doesn't choose to do either of those as an adult, but I would be much more concerned and upset if she was a prostitute. I would wonder what drove her to that (assuming it was a choice on her part) and I would want to do what I could to help her realize there are other options for her. I would not think I was a failure as a parent. I know I've been doing the best I can to help my daughter make good choices, but from the beginning of her life, she has been her own person. I can't completely control her. I'll have less control over her when she is an adult and I can only hope my teaching has sunk in. And I would love her regardless.

Neither are solid careers with good resumes'.

Can you imagine getting references from that ??

I'd no doubt be disappointed and most likely share that with her. Then set up counseling.

Purely reality based I have no idea how I would react to the situation you presented because I have not been presented with it in real life.
Humans can *say* what they would do however, no one really knows what they would do until the situation is presented to them.

What do you think you would do, ground a legal adult?
Take away their xbox?
The reality of the situation is you can legally do nothing except write her out of the will and your life.

I have 2 daughters and since both and my sister were dancers I cannot judge , they are both single and if they wanted to I would be supportive . My eldest was asking me about it the other day . She has ever done any kind of dope nor does she have a drinking problem or mental illness Etc . I told her to go for it .
Prostitution ? No i do not think they would ever be brave enough to tell me .

Yeah, it can be a tough call... on one hand, folks talk about what needs to be done to survive, but OTOH, dignity and status also "get in the way". If a girl stripped or hooked up, but managed to get through school without any debt in a fraction of the time it would take any other job, then that would certainly be a leg up.

Heck, in some of the families I've talked with, if your child isn't making $100K by his/her 30s, then that's as "dishonorable" as stripping/prostitution!

In modern times, some women enjoy academia, but it simply doesn't pay the bills. Escort services are what pays the bills (according to another show, escort isn't just sex... there's also talking, companionship, taking charge, and behind).

I recall from documentaries that in the wild wild west days, a woman could either do a full day's of backbreaking labor and get x amount of money, or have sex with some strangers and get ten times the money at a tenth of the time.

Here is an interesting article on strippers. It's not quite an opinion piece, but it's not exactly research based, either. As she says, it's a shadowy world.

My adult daughter? I'd express concern for the reasons stated above -- the nature of the sex industry.

My daughter is a rock-climber. I've learned to deal with it.

I agree with this. Many parents are disappointed to the extreme when their son or daughter isn't highly successful in a white collar career. They are extremely embarrassed to tell people that their son or daughter is doing some blue-collar job, temping or something of that nature.
