Have any suggestions to keep kids safe when online? (especially when I'm not around)

These are all great ideas, thank you! I am also concerned with the possibility of them speaking to people online.
I don't think you can keep them from talking online because they'll also communicate with friends online. The best way to handle this is to talk to them. Let them know that "chatroom friends" aren't always what they seem to be. I think the Dateline series, "To Catch a Predator," provided a service by showing they types of people who prey on under-aged kids. Let your kids know about this, that Joe_age_12 may be a 37 year old pervert.
Thanks! I wanted to update, i moved the computer and they understood why i had moved it and my concerns - i also actually am trying out some software now that automatically blocks websites that contain the bad stuff and it appears to work well. Thanks again!!
