I've been where you are.

My son was very bright but we knew very early in kindergarten that he was too immature for first grade. He has August 4 birthday. We decided to have him repeat kindergarten due to maturity issues = nothing academic. His k teacher told us "I guarantee if you hold him back he will graduate in the top 10% of his class".

We paid attention to her and our instincts. He graduated number 4 in a class of 450, finished college with double majors of math and physics in 3 years and is now working on his PhD in theoretical physics. I'm so glad I listened to that inner voice. Maturity issues can make all the difference in the world in school.
