My family will be relocating to the C-Burg area as soon as we sell our home in Scranton, PA. We have 2 young children(4 yrs and 1 month) so we would want to move to an area that has good schools and low crime. My husband will be working in C-Burg and I will be looking for a job once we sell our house. We are not opposed to commuting 30-45 min for work. Anyone have any advice on where to live? We are also interested in renting an apartment/townhouse instead of buying a home as we plan on moving again within the next 2-3 yrs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I am from the midwest so I am used to the slower pace and countryside so commuting to the bigger cities won't be a big issue.

We had a couple of good posters from the Chambersburg area but they might have gone away. Maybe if I bump this they'll notice.

I'm interested in the area also. There are a few threads concerning Chambersburg, just do a search for them.

jeepejeep I hope we can stay in touch. My husband is starting work in C-burg on Monday June 27th. He is going to try to put his feelers out to his fellow employees on good places to live etc. I'll let you know what he hears and try to post on here....Please keep your posts going too. Very interested in what others have to say as I actually have never even been through this area.

Will do Natty. I really hope this works out for both of us. It's a bit scary moving from a place you've lived your whole life but it's time for us.

The schools here are not too great, but coming from scranton it may be comparable. Many use corpus christi private catholic school or mercersburg acadamy. Greencastle is said to have better schools as well as camp hill, mechanicsburg, carlisle. I think if your kids are good learners, they can get a good education almost anywhere. There are so many townhomes here, the ones i see the most are off wayne ave behind giant supermarket. I'm not sure of the names or cost, but they seem good. there is mower meadows near lowes , i hear they are good. my other friend rents one on route 11 towards red bridge area, but warns all that it backs a farm field and it always always stinks of manure, so unless you like to keep the windows closed, i'd avoid that one (but they seem so nice too!) i'll try to get you names of some, i do think i see sunnyway attached to alot of them. ??

We lived in Chbg for about 2 years, moved away for 2 years, and have been back for 2 years. There are numerous newer townhomes in the Mill. Rd/Progress Rd. area. I think the school are fine. Our daughter had always attended private school and in 5th grade she attended Marion Elementary and we were very pleased with it. It was small enough to feel like a neighborhood school with heavy parental involvement. She is currently in middle school and I feel that she is getting an adequate education, but nothing like the private school she attended in AZ where she had a medical doctor teaching her science and math classes. Of course, she often had 4-5 hours of homework each night which I considered excessive.

If you aren't from PA, let me warn you: LOCAL INCOME TAXES!!!! Never heard of those before, but we must pay quarterly and while I'm grateful for a good income, it is fairly painful each quarter. PA's state tax is a flat 3.07% and local taxes are a flat 1.7%.
