My wife and I are thinking of relocating to the Philadelphia area and want to live in Montgomery county....How is Pottstown? It looks fairly reasonable as far as housing prices go. Is this a nice place to live?....Let me know of some good alternatives if not. Thanks for your help!

Pottstown, IMHO, is a dumpy city with a pretty high crime rate. How much are you looking to spend on a home? Where are you going to work? There are nicer surrounding areas...

pottstown is a really mixed area, both in races and in prices. there are some decent areas of pottstown. But in general it's not considered a very good area. But the housing prices are good. If you want that 422 corridor area the collegville area is nice and up and coming area to look at also west norriton isn't that bad either. If you have kids or are thinking about them I would suggest havertown or springfield in delaware county great neighborhoods for kids and good schools plus they have easy access to the KoP area and philly for work.

Be warned about the 422 corridor: 422 is backed up EVERY morning, without fail. A lot of people commute from that area to Philly, and the road is a 2-lane crawlfest from 6AM-9AM every day.

Default pottstown

this is all good to know since we really havent seen any areas yet....all we know is we are looking for a nice suburb for a good price. I was wondering why the houses in pottstown were so cheap and now I know.

Default wouldn't recommend

I've just moved to the area too.. and the pricing scared me too... just keep looking... Pottstown has a bad rep... even one of the apartment managers said that "this might not be what a single girl is looking for", then later explained about how they (the apartments) were shut down just a few years ago because of drugs...

West Chester seemed nice, college townish...

King of Prussia area is BUSY, traffic traffic...

I'm out in past the Coatesville area its not bad... Downingtown is close, and it seems really nice.

Landsdale is supposed to be really nice, and pricing is good...

As a native of that area, I'd say yes. But not everyone thinks this way. Most stay closer to Noristown or Phoenixville. The outlying area around Pottstown specifically just over the river in Chester county, is exploding. There are a number of older homes in Pottstown but not much that I'm aware of as far as new construction.
