Hi, I'm currently living in the Pottstown area and am looking to move, preferably somewhere in Berks County. Some towns I'm considering so far include: Fleetwood, Womelsdorf, Shillington, Sinking Spring, Laureldale, etc. I am open to other towns so far as long as I can travel to Reading by bus (BARTA) for shopping, doctor appointments, going to the outlets, etc.

Alternatively, if there are any areas on the outskirts of Reading that might work also - I just don't want to be in downtown, near all the crime etc. I am on subsidized housing, so I will need to contact the Berks County Housing Assoc. Basically I'm looking to move to a small town area, where it's relatively quiet, but not out in 'the sticks', lol. Thanks for any advice. Greg

I waited a while to answer because I don't live in the targeted areas you mentioned, but, until someone very knowledgeable about specific neighborhoods comes along, here's my take.

You have no car so you'll need to be near transportation so just be aware that Fleetwood, Sinking Spring and especially Womelsdorf are away from the Reading transportation hub and don't have frequent buses. Shillington and Laureldale are closer-in and have walkable areas with sidewalks and stores.

If you are going to need subsidized housing, I'd contact the Berks County Housing Association first, to see where they have available housing, and lay out your preferences. There's likely a waiting list for the good places.

Good Luck
