Help! I am from NH, and have a car that is registered in PA, but is not driven in PA (because it is a company vehicle). Do I have to make the trip to PA to have it inspected (the registration is good until 12/10).

If so, how long do I have to get it there. Also, if I don't get it inspected until it arrives back in PA, any idea what will happen?

thanks for your help!

There's a difference between registration and inspection. An inspection is to make sure a vehicle is road worthy and it lasts for one year. Registration is proof of ownership. Why doesn't the company take care of this?

The inspection only matters if you drive the vehicle in PA. As long as the registration / plate sticker is valid and you don’t come into PA then you won’t get pulled over.

The bigger concern is why your company didn’t transfer the title / plates into NH. Most states have a law that makes you change the title and plates over if you are in the state for more than X number of days.

I used to be a cop in PA (now I'm a cop in the Dirty South, but I'm heading back to PA soon).

PA law requires that you have the vehicle inspected within 10 days of it entering the Commonwealth. However, how do you prove to the officer who stops you that the vehicle has been continuously out of state? That will prove somewhat difficult, I think.

My suggestion would be to not worry about it until you head to PA, and then get the vehicle inspected right away. In the event that you're stopped before getting it inspected, explain the situation to the officer. Having a NH license and the vehicle being registered to a company would add credence to your story.
