wow,I haven't heard that.I did know that if you got too much that you might get that marbled look. But I thought that if a kid didn't get enough, then that was not good either. Our Pediatrician here prescribed flouride for our kids, but I just make our juice with flouridated water and that's all we do.I also thought that perhaps there were areas where there was actually flouride in the well water.I will have to look that up.Thanks for the advise!

As far as I know, if you have a private well, there will not be any flouride in your water. Most doctors prescribe flouride drops (awful, smelly stuff!) for infants and older kids can get vitamins with flouride until age 12. My doctor has told me that after age 12, extra flouride doesn't make any difference, most likely because the adult teeth are already in. My one daughter does have that marbled look that was mentioned in a previous post, and I have heard that flouride is the cause, although my daughter never had excessive amounts and none of my other kids seem to have it. Her teeth are still white and very healthy and it isn't noticeable to anyone unless they look very closely.

I believe there are other medications (some type of antibiotic maybe?) that can also cause the tooth discoloration thing. I'm not sure if it's in all schools, but our school offers free flouride tablets to any students whose parents sign them up for the program. I remember these from my long-ago days in school, so this could be a state program.
